KICA MATOS PREPARES FOR NEW OPPORTUNITIES AS SHE ANNOUNCES HER DEPARTURE FROM CITY HALL

(4/9/2009) NEW HAVEN- Kica Matos, Community Services Administrator for the City of New Haven for the past two and a half years, announced today that she would be leaving her position in the City effective May 29th to embark upon a new opportunity with Atlantic Philanthropies. Matos, who was instrumental in developing a number of successful programs and initiatives in the City including the Elm City Resident Card, the Street Outreach Workers Program and Prisoner Re-entry, will begin a new role as Program Executive in the Human Rights and Reconciliation Division for Atlantic Philanthropies in New York City beginning June 1st.

“Working for the residents of the City of New Haven has been tremendously rewarding. This is a place where I’ve learned so much and I’ve been challenged in great ways,” said Matos. “We’ve done a lot to meet the challenges of residents. It’s been such a privilege to work with such forward thinking people who strive to meet the needs of residents every day. It’s going to be hard to walk away. While I’m sad to leave, I couldn’t pass up this tremendous new opportunity to work with a foundation that has such a remarkable track record in a number of areas that I care deeply about.”

“Kica has been an outstanding member of our team who has contributed valuable insight and energy in helping to make New Haven a more united and vibrant community,” said Mayor John DeStefano, Jr. “While she will be missed, she will be embarking on an important opportunity to continue to help communities globally.”

The Atlantic Philanthropies are dedicated to bringing about lasting changes in the lives of disadvantaged and vulnerable people. Atlantic focuses on critical social problems related to ageing, disadvantaged children & youth, population health, and reconciliation & human rights. Atlantic Philanthropies funds programming in six nations throughout the world.
